Organic Maple Syrup, Grade A Medium Amber

What it is:  Crown Maple Organic Grade A Medium Amber Maple Syrup, from pristine maple sap harvested on a family-owned farm in the Hudson River Valley.

Details:  12-ounce bottle, $17.95

Who makes it:  Crown Maple, producers of pure maple syrup from a sustainably-managed farm in Dutchess County, New York.

Why I love it:  One taste of pure maple syrup, and I'm transported to winter in the Northeast, complete with horse-drawn carriages and buckets of fresh maple sap in the snow. Despite my winter wonderland rhapsodizing, this syrup has enough character to pair with homemade dishes all year long. The Grade A Medium Amber syrup is more robust and full-bodied than its lighter sibling, offering up flavors of gingerbread and coffee, but is still delicate and refined.

How I’ll use this in my kitchen:  I'll pair this syrup with bold dishes, because its robust flavors will be able to stand up to other strong ingredients. It would be dreamy over dark chocolate ice cream, or drizzled over a moist ginger molasses cake. The toffee notes of the syrup will be amazing with bacon-spiked baked beans and will add some sweetness to a smoky barbecue sauce.  I'll also indulge with a spoonful of syrup in my morning coffee--now that's the right way to start the day!
