Organic Maple Syrup, Grade A Dark Amber

What it is:  Crown Maple Organic Grade A Dark Amber Maple Syrup, from pristine maple sap harvested on a family farm in the Hudson River Valley.

Details:  12-ounce bottle, $17.95

Who makes it:  Crown Maple, producers of pure maple syrup from a sustainably-managed farm in Dutchess County, New York.

Why I love it:  One taste of pure maple syrup, and I'm transported to winter in the Northeast, complete with horse-drawn carriages and buckets of fresh maple sap in the snow. Despite my winter wonderland rhapsodizing, this syrup has enough character to pair with homemade dishes all year long. The darkest of the Crown Maple line, this Grade A Dark Amber syrup is full of deep, toasted sweetness, without being heavy or overpowering.

How I’ll use this in my kitchen:  This complex syrup can single-handedly elevate a simple dessert to astronomical heights. I'll be drizzling it over baked tart apples, adding it to maple nut bars, and pouring a healthy amount over a well-spiced pumpkin pie. The weight and robust flavor of this syrup will also make it a great replacement for molasses or barley malt syrup in hearty whole-grain breads.
